MELC offers instruction in a range of ancient and modern Middle Eastern languages. The information below explains how to complete a proficiency exam to determine the appropriate placement for your level of study.
Arabic, Modern Greek, and Modern Hebrew Proficiency Exams
The Arabic, Modern Greek, and Modern Hebrew proficiency exams assess your existing language knowledge and proficiency to determine the course that best corresponds to your current level. The results help place you in the appropriate course to support your continued language development and successful learning.
Students beginning their study of Arabic, Modern Greek, or Modern Hebrew should complete the appropriate L&S proficiency exam available through the Berkeley Language Center. Please review the instructions carefully and select the appropriate language to begin the exam. These proficiency exams follow a common format designed to assess your readiness to fulfill the L&S Language Requirement.
