The MELC department mourns Anne Draffkorn Kilmer, an esteemed colleague and long-time member of the Department, who passed away in July, aged 92.
Anne was the first woman appointed to a tenure-track position in the Department (then known as Near Eastern Languages) when she joined as assistant professor in Assyriology in 1963. She also chaired the Department three times, in the 1970s and early and late 1990s, before retiring in 2001.
She was honored with a festschrift at the age of 80: Strings and Threads: A Celebration of the Work of Anne Draffkorn Kilmer, edited by Wolfgang Heimpel and Gabriella Szabo (Winona Lake: IN, 2011).
